Report pages
Piste publishes reports as pages at a stable link. A page opens only for your workspace until the owner makes it public, and only the owner can delete it.
A report page is a report Piste publishes at a stable link, such as a weekly trading report, a stock list for your warehouse or a playbook's weekly review. A new page opens only for someone signed in to your Piste workspace, and only the owner signs in on the web. Only the owner can make a page public, unpublish it or delete it, and all of it happens by asking Piste in a conversation.
How do I make a report page?
Ask Piste in any conversation, on the web, in Slack or over iMessage. For example: "Publish last week's trading report as a page" or "Make a stock list I can send the warehouse". Piste publishes it and replies with the link, which looks like https://app.usepiste.com/p/<slug>.
Publishing needs no approval, because a new page opens only for your workspace. Some routines publish their own page each run: the Store operations weekly review is one. A dry run (Try it now, or a playbook's preview) never publishes a page.
What's on a report page?
A page is built from blocks: headings, paragraphs, rows of key figures, tables, line and bar charts, callouts and lists. Piste draws every page in its own design and never as HTML, so a page can't run scripts or load anything from elsewhere.
Every number on a page is labelled with where it came from:
| Label | Where the number came from |
|---|---|
| Shopify | Your store's own figures |
| Platform-reported | An ad platform's own claim, never presented as measured |
| Lift test | A lift test |
| Mix model | A mix model |
| Piste | Calculated by Piste from the store's numbers, such as days of cover |
Each page shows your workspace's name, the page's title, and its version and when it was published. Piste is told never to put a customer's name, email, address or phone number on a page.
How do versions work?
When Piste publishes under the same page name again, the link stays the same and the page gets a new version. Every version is kept. If nothing has changed since the last version, no new one is added.
Signed in to your workspace, you see All N versions on a page with more than one, and can open any of them. An older version says which one you're reading, with a link to the latest. Anyone else only ever sees the latest version.
Who can open a report page?
Each page has one of three settings. Signed in to your workspace, the owner can always open it, whatever the setting.
| Setting | Who else can open it |
|---|---|
| Workspace only (the default) | Nobody. Someone signed out is asked to sign in, and someone signed in to another workspace sees that the page doesn't exist. |
| Anyone with the link | Anyone, without a Piste account. They see the latest version only. |
| Unpublished | Nobody. The link stops working outside your workspace, and Piste can't publish a new version until the owner sets the page back to workspace only. |
People who use Piste only in Slack or over iMessage have no Piste sign-in, so they can't open a workspace-only page. Piste gives them the headline and the numbers in its reply as well as the link. Every report page asks search engines not to index it, public ones included.
How do I make a page public?
Ask Piste to share it
In a conversation, the owner asks, for example, "Make the weekly review public so I can send it to our investor".
Approve the version
Piste asks for approval to make the page's latest version public "and the versions after it", naming the page and the version. Only the workspace owner can approve it.
Send the link
Anyone with the link can now open the page's latest version.
A public page stays public when a new version is published under the same name, so a weekly report you shared stays current. Only the owner, or a routine running for the owner, can publish a new version of a public page.
How do I stop sharing a page?
Ask Piste to unpublish it, or to set it back to workspace only. Both only narrow who can open it, so Piste does it without asking for approval. Only the owner can change who can open a page, and not from an automation run.
Unpublish when you want the page to stop changing too: a routine can't add a version to an unpublished page, and says so in its result. To publish it again, ask Piste to set it back to workspace only.
How do I delete a page?
Ask Piste to delete the page, or one version of it. The owner approves each delete, and it can't be undone: a deleted page's link stops working, and a deleted version is gone for good. Use it for something published by mistake, such as a customer's details, or when someone asks to be erased.
To delete a page's only version, delete the whole page. If you delete the latest version of a public page, the page goes back to workspace only until the owner approves sharing again.
Where do I find my pages?
There's no Pages screen in the app. Ask Piste "What pages have we published?" and it lists each page's name, link, latest title and version, and who can open it.
