Usage and billing
Piste's sign-up offers the first 30 days free, with no contract. How usage limits work, what counts towards them, and the data tools allowance.
Piste's sign-up page offers the first 30 days free, with no contract. There's no billing screen in the app. Piste can limit how much work the agent does for a workspace each day and each month, but no limit is set by default. Paid data tools have their own monthly allowance, $50 unless you change it.
How much does Piste cost?
The sign-up page reads "First 30 days free, with no contract". The app takes you through no plan, payment or billing step, and has no billing page.
Piste's terms say: "Some parts of the service may be paid. We'll show you the price before you commit to it." Piste's address for questions is support@usepiste.com.
Is there a usage limit?
Piste can set two limits on how much work the agent does for a workspace: one a day and one a month, counted from the start of the day or month in UTC. No limit is set by default.
The agent's work counts towards them: your conversations on the web, in Slack and over iMessage, your team's conversations in Slack, and automation runs.
What happens when a limit is reached?
Piste stops the turn instead of answering, with the message "Workspace agent usage limit reached - resets daily/monthly". In the web app, it shows as "Piste couldn't finish that" with that reason.
The first time it happens, Piste also sends the owner one Slack message offering to run on their ChatGPT plan. It opens: "I've reached Piste's usage limit for this workspace, so I can't answer again until it resets." Piste sends this once per workspace, and only to an owner who has Slack connected.
The limit lifts at the start of the next UTC day, or month for the monthly limit.
Does my ChatGPT plan count towards usage?
No. When the owner connects a ChatGPT plan and switches on Run the agent on this plan, Piste's limits don't apply while the agent runs on the plan:
- Work the plan answers is recorded, but doesn't count.
- When the plan can't answer, such as at its own usage limit, Piste's own model steps in for that work, and that work counts.
Jobs for the coder run on a connected Claude or ChatGPT plan and never fall back to Piste's model. See ChatGPT plan and Jobs and the coder.
What is the data tools allowance?
Data tools are paid search, keyword, SEO and web data the agent can call. Each workspace has a monthly allowance, counted per calendar month in UTC.
| Setting | Default | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Use data tools | On | The Connections page, under Tools |
| Monthly allowance | $50 | The same card. It can be set from $0 to $10,000. |
| Asks before a call costing more than | $0.50 | Fixed |
Piste asks before any call over $0.50, and stops for the month at the allowance. The card's "This month" line shows what's been spent, such as "$1.20 of $50.00". Only the owner changes these settings, on the Connections page in the links at the foot of the sidebar.
Where can I see my usage?
There's no usage screen for the agent's work. The only spend the app shows is the data tools card's "This month" line, on the Connections page.
