ConnectEarly access
Google Ads and Meta
Connecting a Google Ads or Meta Ads account lets Piste measure your ad spend against Shopify sales and propose ad changes you approve. It's in early access.
Piste can connect one Google Ads account and one Meta Ads account per workspace, so it can set your ad spend against your Shopify sales and propose changes to your campaigns. Where the connection isn't available yet, its card on the Connections page (Connections, in the links at the foot of the sidebar) says "Google Ads isn't switched on here yet." or "Meta Ads isn't switched on here yet." and has no Connect button.
What does connecting an ad account give me?
Everything Piste does with ads starts from a connected account.
| Feature | What it does |
|---|---|
| Measurement | Studies of what your ad spend did, set against Shopify's sales, with where each number came from. |
| Weekly plan | A plan every Monday, which may propose one campaign budget change. Piste sets it up the first time an ad account connects. |
| Ad spend watch | A morning post with yesterday's ad spend against Shopify's orders and sales, and up to three ad changes. |
| Ad changes | Changes to campaigns, ad groups, ad sets, ads and keywords, proposed on cards and applied by a person. Each can be undone. |
| Standing approvals | Permission for Piste to apply one kind of Google Ads negative keyword change without asking. |
| Targets | A return on ad spend target for each Monday-to-Sunday week. |
| ChatGPT and Claude | Your measurement, read from ChatGPT or Claude. |
How do I connect an ad account?
Where Google Ads or Meta is switched on, the workspace owner connects it from the Connections page.
Open the Connections page
Press Connections in the links at the foot of the sidebar. The Meta Ads and Google Ads cards are under Ad accounts.
Press Connect Google Ads or Connect Meta Ads
For Google Ads, you sign in with the Google account that has access to your Google Ads. For Meta, you sign in with Facebook and choose which ad accounts to share.
Choose an account, if asked
If your login can read several ad accounts, the card asks "Which one should Piste measure?". Pick one and press Use this account.
Piste then reads the account's last 30 days, and the card shows the account's name, ID and currency, and when Piste last read it.
Google Ads has no read-only permission, so the access you give Google can also make changes. Piste makes a change only when a person applies it, or under a standing approval the owner switched on.
What does Piste read and change?
Piste reads each campaign's daily totals: spend, impressions, clicks and the conversions the platform reports. It reads nothing about a person.
Piste changes an ad account only through an ad change applied from its card or under a standing approval, or a budget change a plan study recommends, once a person approves it in Piste. It only proposes kinds of ad change it can undo, and a budget moves by at most 20% per change. Ad changes have so far been tested only against simulated accounts, not yet a live Google Ads or Meta account.
Who can connect an ad account?
Only the workspace owner can connect, choose, reconnect or disconnect an ad account.
How do I disconnect or reconnect?
Press Disconnect on the account's card. Piste stops reading the account and deletes the daily totals it read. Studies keep the numbers they were written from.
If Google or Meta stops accepting Piste's access, the card's state reads "Needs reconnecting". Press Reconnect to sign in again.
