Quiet hours and digests
Set when Piste may post outside a conversation, hold a Slack channel's posts to once a day, and read the weekly ledger and the nudges on cards left open.
Quiet hours set when Piste may post outside a conversation. They're off by default, so Piste posts at any hour. Only the owner sets them, by telling Piste, and they hold posts only: automations still run on time.
This page also covers the two digests Piste writes for you in Slack: the weekly ledger, and nudges on cards left open.
What do quiet hours hold?
Quiet hours have two settings. You can use either or both.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Working hours | Anything Piste would post outside them waits until they next open. This applies in Slack and over iMessage. |
| One post a day, for a Slack channel | Everything for that channel waits for one time each day, then arrives together, oldest first. |
A post that waited leads with when it was held, such as "Held since Saturday 03:10." Any cards in it show as they are when it goes out, so a card someone decided meanwhile shows that decision.
When an automation's held post said it had nothing to decide and a newer post from the same automation is waiting, Piste drops the older one. Monday gets one "nothing to decide", not one for each day of the weekend. A post with cards is never dropped.
A channel's daily post keeps your working hours too: with weekday hours, nothing goes out at the weekend or before your hours open.
How do I set quiet hours?
Tell Piste when it may post
Say it in any conversation with Piste, in Slack, on the web or over iMessage. For example: "Only post between 08:00 and 18:00, Monday to Friday", or "In #piste-changes, post once a day at 09:00".
Check what Piste saved
Piste reads back the setting as it saved it, such as "Anything I'd post outside 08:00–18:00 Monday to Friday (Europe/London time) waits until those hours next open, and then says since when it waited." It also lists what still comes through.
Change or remove it the same way
Tell Piste the new hours, or ask it to turn working hours off, or a channel's daily post off. Posts already waiting follow the new setting.
Times are 24-hour, such as 08:00, in the time zone you name. If you don't name one, Piste keeps the zone your quiet hours already use, or else uses your workspace's. Working hours can run past midnight and need at least one day. Quiet hours from 22:00 to 07:00 are the same as working hours from 07:00 to 22:00.
To see the current setting, ask Piste "when do you post?". With nothing set, it says "I post at any hour: no working hours are set."
Only the owner can set quiet hours, and an automation can't change them. Any member can ask Piste what they are.
What still comes through in quiet hours?
Some posts go out at any hour, because the code that sends them marks them urgent. Piste lists these when it reads back your setting:
- "a store trigger for a large order or a refund spike"
- "a notice about something you started (an approval or a question in a chat, a login the coder needs)"
- "my replies when you ask me something or press a button"
A sale room's posts also come through, because a sale often runs at the weekend. So do the working Piste posts when someone presses Show the working, and Piste's question to you in a card's thread when a teammate presses a pre-order button that only you can switch on.
| Waits for your working hours | Comes through at any hour |
|---|---|
| Automation results and change follow-ups | Store triggers for a large order or a refund spike |
| Other store triggers, such as low stock or a first order | Notices about an approval, a question or a login you started |
| The first week's daily messages | Piste's replies to you |
| The weekly ledger and nudges | Sale room posts |
What is the weekly ledger?
The weekly ledger is one post a week in the owner's Slack DM with Piste, saying what was decided on Piste's proposals that week and by whom. Piste's code builds it from the records; no AI writes it.
Piste sends it on Friday between 4pm and 9pm in your workspace's time zone, unless your quiet hours hold it. It goes only to the owner, never to a channel, so nobody's decisions are tallied in front of the team.
The ledger has, in order:
- "This week at" your workspace's name, with the week's dates.
- Up to 12 decisions, each with who took it, what it was, the day, and its result so far.
- Changes that were undone that week.
- "Still open:", with up to 3 cards still waiting, how long each has been open, and who took the last ones like it.
- A count since Piste started, such as "Since Piste started: 14 decisions, 2 undone, 5 results in so far."
- "Every decision, and who took it, is in Settings › Activity.", linking to the Activity page in the web app, where the decision log is.
Each result keeps the label of where it came from: measured spend, a study's evidence, "Before and after, on Shopify's figures: directional, not a test.", the date it's due, or too early to say. The ledger never adds money up and never credits anyone with a sum.
A quiet week, with nothing decided, nothing undone and nothing open, posts nothing.
What are nudges?
A nudge is one reply in the thread of a card that has been left open. It goes to a budget change, ad change or change follow-up card under an automation's post that has been open for more than 24 hours and less than 7 days. Store edit cards, order holds and Gmail drafts don't get one.
The nudge mentions the person who took the latest cards like it in that channel, if Slack says they're still a full member, or else the owner. It reads like "@name this one has been open since Tue 6 Oct: …", followed by why the card matters and how many like it they took.
Each card gets one nudge, ever, and a channel gets at most one a day, for its oldest open card. Nudges go out only in working hours, Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 17:00 in your workspace's time zone, and quiet hours can hold them too.
